Golf Course

About the Course

Sculpted into the rugged rock terrain, Red Mountain Golf Course is a scenic delight and a true challenge. The par 72 is a highly strategic course, with numerous risk and reward opportunities creating a stimulating test for golfers of all levels. Coursing through 6,781yards, the course designed by Jon Morrow and Al Tikkanen cleverly exploits the dramatic landforms and elevation changes remnant of the tin mine. The course is a challenge for even the best golfers from the Championship tees whilst providing a more leisurely challenge from the white tees at 5,900 yards.

Red Mountain has been built to the highest international standards and is immaculately maintained with a strong dedication to environmental protection. The design allows the terrain to speak for itself. Former mining pits have been flooded to create challenging water hazards and mountain sides were scraped away to reveal the native red clay on multiple holes. All this in stark contrast to the manicured fairways, white sand, and the famous Phuket blue sky weather.

The front 9 has some memorable holes, none more so than the short Par 3 Hole No 3 where land scarring from the tin mining has been carefully protected creating a large wasteland of eroded ridges and gullies formed from years of storm water run-off over tin mine tailings. The 8th hole tee shot is played from an elevated tee back down toward a large lake that requires careful club selection and some nerve. The 9th tee box provides a great opportunity to witness the tin mine scarring up close as you head back down a short Par 4 with the clubhouse framed in the distance.

The second nine features twisting fairways framed by bright red rock cliffs, splashes of thick jungle and spectacular viewpoints. After a climb of over 100 metres from the 15th green, the 16th hole is the highest point of any golf course in Phuket and golfers should take the time to enjoy the view over Phuket City across to the famous Big Buddha from the spectacular viewpoint behind the green. The signature Par 3 Hole 17th takes you from a precipitous ledge, down over 40 meters through towering trees to a lush green valley carved out of the bright red rock below.

While the course is undoubtedly challenging, numerous risk and reward options create a fun playing environment, an exhilarating test of golf cleverly exploiting the dramatic landforms and elevation changes featuring twisting fairways framed by bright red rock cliffs, splashes of thick jungle and spectacular viewpoints.
